How do I use this service?

It's easy to get started using Google WiFi. Here's what you'll need:
  • A wireless enabled computer or other device - Most laptop computers have built-in wireless capability. If your computer doesn't have this feature built in, you can purchase a wireless network card.
  • A web browser on the computer or device you wish to use - Your computer likely already has a web broswer such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari installed. You'll need a browser to sign in to Google WiFi, so you won't be able to access the network on a phone or other device that doesn't include a browser.
  • A Google Account - You'll need a Google Account to sign in to the Google WiFi network. A Gmail address is also a Google Account and will allow you to access the service. If you don't have a Google Account, you can create one for free at Google Accounts home.
  • A WiFi modem - Using a modem is optional, but can help you receive a strong signal if you plan to access the network indoors.

Once you have everything you need, you can follow these steps to connect:

  1. Connect - Use the connection manager of your computer or device to find and connect to the network. Laptop users can follow our connection instructions. We also offer instructions for connecting with popular WiFi modems in our Help Center.

You can also access the network by manually connecting to the SSID network name 'GoogleWiFi.' Encryption should be disabled. Please note that all traffic transmitted between our Google WiFi nodes and the internet is encrypted. However, traffic from a mobile device to the Google WiFi node is not encrypted. If you wish to secure your connection, we recommend using Google Secure Access or GoogleWiFiSecure.

  2. Sign in - Once you're connected to Google WiFi, open your internet browser and sign in to your Google Account. You should see a Google WiFi login page when you open your browser, but if you don't, you can open another site such as www.google.com. This should automatically load the Google WiFi login page. Once you've signed in, you're ready to use the network.
