I can't send Email messages while I'm connected to Google WiFi. What gives?

In order to curb email spamming abuse on the Google WiFi network, we currently block outgoing connections of TCP on port 25 (this is the default email or SMTP setting). If your email client is configured to use port 25, you will be unable to send email, but you will still be able to receive it. Many third party email providers provide an alternate method to connect to them called Authenticated SMTP which uses TCP port 587. Information on using these services will vary. We recommend contacting your Email provider for more information.

Comcast offers online instructions for their customers using a PC or a Mac, as does Yahoo. Earthlink users can use smtpauth.earthlink.net port 587, after checking the box ‘my server requires authentication.' You may want to check with your Email service provider for additional information.

To send Gmail messages with your client, visit the Gmail Help Center for assistance with configuration.
